Saving energy: new roaster utilises waste heat
We are committed to tradition, but this does not prevent us from introducing sensible innovations. In 2013, we remodelled and modernised our roasting plant. We also started using a new roaster. And it utilises the energy being used not just once, but several times over. Using the waste heat produced during the roasting of one batch, the following batches of unroasted coffee get pre-warmed for the roasting process. As a result of this increased efficiency and other improvements, we are saving significantly on gas and reducing CO2 emissions. The new roaster uses around 28 percent less energy than its predecessor and cuts down on CO2 by up to 16 percent.
